Cavs Instant History

The ad agency of the Cleveland Cavaliers came to me with a few still shots of their arena, a couple reels of the “best of” and a dream for a 30 second spot. I edited the footage, composited the scenes and did camera moves on the stills and then added an animated logo treatment.

China Wall

Working with the world renowned Ring of Fire in Hollywood, I was tasked to do the background painting, compositing and fx for this spot.

Kelly Tires

The ad agency came to me with an idea for Kelly Tires but no storyboards. I developed the storyboards, directed the footage and shot the stop motion photography. I edited the scenes together and animated the final spot. This spot won many awards for the agency.

Kumho Summer X

Kumho’s ad agency came to me with images for the print campaign and a need for a few tv spots for the summer X-games for Kumho Tires. I took the look and developed and animated the spot using shot footage, 3D graphics and lots of design stills. This spot won many awards for the agency.

Ohio Lottery Battleship

The ad agency came to me with two historical still images without an idea of how to handle them. I had just finished working on the Monty Python CD-Rom Games with Seventh Level in which I animated the original Python Artwork into Sprites for the game. I was ready. I took the stills and broke them into pieces and animated them for their spot. This campaign won quite a few awards for the agency.

Miracle Whip

This was a really fun campaign for the ad agency of Miracle Whip. Working with Ring of Fire, I was responsible for animation and fx for the spot. I took a still of a model and animating the lights, lighting on the ship, bg element and motion. I took a scene within the spacecraft in which the actors were hung from wires as the entire ship was rocked. I removed all of the rigging digitally and added some extra props. I also animated a door in space which ripped apart the solar panel, floated a miracle whip bottle and other creative compositing and fx.

Neuroscience

In this spot I was tasked with taking pre-shot footage and animated individual letters to match the action. I also animated the logo at the end.

Nickelodeon Gizmo

Working with Rick Morris, the famed Designer, I took his storyboards and a whole lot of elements and animated them for this promo piece for Nickelodeon.

Pearle Vision

The ad agency for Pearle Vision came to me to develop a spot using the images of glasses I was provided. I developed the storyboards and animated the piece developing a color palette and look that the agency used for the print media.

Truseal

Truseal came to me with an idea and script. I developed the animated text look and transitions to seamlessly get from one frame to another. The company used this for their events and trade shows as well as advertising.

KTM ATV Launch

I worked with the event company to develop the graphic look and elements for the new KTM ATV release. I edited the video together from hours of footage. I added the font and design look to complete the finished piece. This ran as a loop at the KTM event.

Wag the Dog

How many people do you know who really did invent a war? Well, I did for the feature film Wag the Dog. I designed and animated the tv insert segments within the film. I used actual news footage from a war. I painted and composited elements into this footage and composited a new actor named Kirsten Dunst into the footage. Kirsten was shot on blue screen and I developed the footage from that footage.

Caesars Atlantis Fountain Screens

This is just one of 14 screens that are 20 feet x 12’ that are above the Atlantis Fountain Experience in the Caesars Forum Shops in Las Vegas. These were developed to look like people were watching the show but were also treated as live paintings. All 14 screens blended into one another to produce a 280-foot wall of footage. The timing of the screens match the timings of the fountains and when the coliseum is destroyed by water so is the fountain below. Jon Harms of Caesars produced the show and Kern Creative Design produced the 3D. I directed the live action, developed the look, composited the 3D with the 2D and live action and added the effects.

The Ryder Cup

I was contacted by the director of the Ryder Cup Opening Event to produce a hologram of Samuel Ryder. Taking a script from the PGA of America, we took it apart and added as much fun as we could to push the envelope of the full-size holographic technology that Digital Illusions, llc brought to the US. We did casting, costuming, makeup, props and filming in Los Angeles. I then took the raw footage and animated the final piece along with designing the full-size holographic display technology for the PGA. The show was a huge success and still talked about today.

GE Lighting small projection display

I developed the holographic display as well as the content for GE Lighting thru my company Digital Illusions, llc. I took rotating 3D imagery provided by Russ Kern Design and animated the pieces into a continuous loop. Within the holographic display, the images looked like real light bulbs flying at you in space.

Black Flag - Houston

I was approached by an ad agency to develop the footage as well as design the AV for this projection mapping project in Houston, TX. After taking a trip to the site to get images for the building surface, a 3D model of the building was created for me to animate to. Russ Kern Design animated dozens of walking ants that I moved around the surface of the wall. I animated them going into windows and around walls. The giant Black Flag ant bottle then sprayed and they all fell off. This was done as a loop and played for a few hours at night across from the Texans stadium in downtown Houston. We used a couple 16,000 lum stacked projectors to project the imagery on the building. This won a few awards for new technology and advertising.

Cochlear Interactive Design

I was tasked to develop an interactive display for Cochlear’s new experience center in Denver, CO. We developed the design of the hardware to allow users to enter their information and the display showed the animation using that information. It also worked to collect marketing information for the company.

Alcoa Arconic VR

I worked with the trade show content company for Arconic (formerly Alcoa) to develop a VR experience for users at the Paris Air Show. Alcoa was involved in flight from the beginning, supplying aluminum parts for the Wright Brothers. I developed this experience with Isa Alsip in Los Angeles using stock 3D models, custom models and creative environmental maps. I then animated and composited the filmed people at the end to complete the piece. It was a hit at the show!

Re-envisioned Playhouse Square

I worked with DLR Group and Cleveland’s Playhouse square to come up with technologies that could attract more people to downtown Cleveland at night. Using a still shot of the current Square, I cleaned up the plate and animated the elements to be viewed within VR to pitch the people who are the decision makers for such an endeavor. This clip contains projection mapping, interactive sidewalks, gaming, light shows and drone shows!
